Data Attribution

Project Description

The Data Attribution Working Group's objective is to recommend best practices to support standardized data attribution with an overarching goal of improving data interoperability, accessibility, and collaboration in the use of monitoring natural resources data.

Initially, we are striving to support better data attribution for the Coordinated Assessments for Salmon and Steelhead data Exchange (CAX) and StreamNet datastore as case studies, as well as develop general best practices recommendation for data repositories around the region. We have a data exchange for Salmonid populations that is functioning. We want to improve our ability to attribute the data for future re-use of the data, provenance, credit for those who acquired the data, and to improve confidence and trust in existing data.

This work is to support publishing of data with standardized citations, but not USGS data; federal research agency regulations do not apply. PNAMP, affiliated with USGS, is coordinating the process among many entities.
