Fisheries Intern Big Hole Watershed (Butte, MT)

Fisheries intern in the Big Hole Drainage will assist in the collection of data and inventory of waters in the Big Hole River drainage. Work will include electrofishing small streams to quantify the abundance and distribution of Arctic grayling, westslope cutthroat trout, and other species. Mid elevation lakes will also be sampled using netting techniques such as gill and trap nets. Backcountry work sampling high mountain lakes may also be performed. Inventories of native burbot, western pearl shell mussels and restoration of westslope cutthroat trout may all be conducted. Work will include tagging and radio telemetry of native lake trout in Twin Lakes. Major projects will include Arctic grayling introduction and westslope cutthroat trout restoration. Person will also assist in monitoring of Big Hole mainstem flow and temperature according to the Big Hole River Drought Management Plan.
