Environmental Science Associates (ESA) seeks a Senior Water Resources Engineer for our Seattle office. We are looking for an experienced environmental consultant who has successfully planned, designed and implemented coastal, floodplain, stream, and wetland restoration projects and performed other types of water resources engineering work in Washington. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with and help grow our existing team of engineers, landscape architects, and scientists in the pursuit of multi-disciplinary projects.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Perform detailed engineering studies, oversee and interpret modeling analysis, and lead and support a wide range of water resources engineering projects;

Prepare feasibility studies and conceptual designs, develop probable cost of construction, and oversee the preparation of detailed engineering plans and specifications;

Prepare design reports and memoranda to document analyses;

Supervise engineers and technical staff to ensure that project and client needs are met in a timely and effective manner; and facilitate professional development of staff.

Participate in business development, marketing and client stewardship activities including identifying project opportunities, preparing proposals, and leading interview teams to win and secure work;

Manage projects from initiation to close out including negotiating scopes of work and being accountable for meeting schedule and budget requirements;

Perform quality assurance and quality control functions consistent with the company’s QA/QC Plan;

Meet and coordinate with clients, agencies, stakeholders, and contractors to achieve project goals; and

Present project and technical work to clients, agencies, peers and the public.

Capabilities and Credentials:

B.S. degree in Civil / Water Resources Engineering; M.S. degree preferred.

Licensed Professional Engineer in Washington.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering analysis and design of ecological restoration projects, stormwater projects, floodplain projects, and/or bridge hydraulic projects, including responsible charge for constructed projects.

Ability to take responsible charge for engineering designs developed collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.

Additional Desired Skills:

Experience with applied geomorphology and hydraulics, in particular with coastal and fluvial systems, sediment transport and modeling.

Experience with stormwater planning, designing and monitoring.

Experience with bridge hydraulics.

Experience working with resource agencies (i.e., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, WDFW, WSDOT, ODOT), tribes, ports, salmon recovery organizations and similar entities.

Business savvy and entrepreneurial approach.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent time management skills.

Ability to travel (including occasional overnight travel) and work in a wide range of field conditions.
