Overview: CFS is looking for an individual with specialized skills and expertise in simulation modeling, mathematics and advanced statistics to work with our Pacific Northwest team to help resolve challenging resource management problems. This individual would work as part of a team providing specialized services to clients helping them understand the effects of resource management actions on aquatic habitat and fish. CFS is well-regarded in the region for developing highly-defensible, practical solutions to support sustainable natural resource management.

Location: A full-time position would be stationed at our corporate headquarters in Gresham, Oregon but would collaborate with peers at all CFS offices. We have on-going projects and many new prospects and expect steady work for the foreseeable future.

Position Description: CFS seeks an individual with very strong quantitative and "R" programming skills. Knowledge and experience with other statistical analyses, programming languages, and with ecology and resource management is a plus.

  • Collaborate with biologists to develop simulation models and quantitative assessments for ecological data.
  • Serve as a data analyst to develop experimental design for field studies and to creatively analyze data.
  • Common studies include estimates of abundance and survival from mark-recapture studies.
  • Modeling projects often include relating resource management actions to behavior and life-cycle dynamics of Columbia Basin salmonids or other sensitive aquatic organisms.
  • Write and edit technical documents.
  • Design models to guide prioritization of recovery actions and to help monitor recovery success.
  • Supervise data summarization and analysis by technicians and junior biologists.
  • Provide critical review of reports and analyses conducted by others.

Qualifications - Required
M.S. with one or more years of experience with simulation modeling and statistics
Strong technical writing and advanced computer skills
Experience leading small to moderate sized projects
Highly-motivated, self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team
Speak and write English fluently

Qualifications - Desired
Ph.D. in a related field
Experience with fisheries and related science fields
