WA-BC Chapter AFS Grant Applications being accepted

The Washington-British Columbia Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (WA-BC Chapter) has funding available for small grants to fisheries-related non-profit groups, Tribes, and state/regional and federal agencies in Washington State and British Columbia. Grants are usually modest (a total of $3,000 for all projects is available for FY 2014) but can help get a project started or complement other funding sources. Applications must be received by the WA-BC Chapter President, Brian Missildine, no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 30, 2014 and must be submitted electronically to brian.missildine@dfw.wa.gov.

Applications must include the following information and should be no more than one page:
1. Title of activity or project
2. Name(s) of agency or group and contact information (name, address, phone number, fax number, email) for project lead
3. Brief description of activity or project, including (as applicable): location, names of partners, target audience, fish species or habitat that will benefit from project
4. Amount requested
5. What the WA-BC Chapter funds would be used for
6. Other funding sources applied for, if any
7. How does your funding proposal meet the WA-BC Chapter objectives (see below)?

  • Advance the conservation and intelligent management of Washington and British Columbia aquatic resources within a context of sound ecological principles.
  • Gather and disseminate information pertaining to aquatic science and fisheries management.
  • Promote the educational and technical aspects of the fisheries profession.

8. Willing to send a brief (no more than one page) follow-up report, including photos, of activity/project to WA-BC Chapter within 60 days of implementation?

The Executive Committee of the WA-BC Chapter will review applications and notify successful applicants by August 1, 2014. Grants are contingent on the availability of Chapter funds.
