The Washington State Department of Ecology is hiring a full-time senior wetland scientist (Natural Resource Scientist 3) at its Headquarters office, Lacey, Thurston County. This position serves as the science lead for Ecology’s wetland section. The position ensures that implementation of the agency’s wetland policies and technical assistance is consistent with emerging scientific advances.
As the designated expert in wetland science, this position provides advice to program management and technical staff on critical and complex scientific and technical issues relating to aquatic resources (wetlands, coastlands, lakes, streams and rivers). This work involves informing and educating agency staff, local governments, and the public on the technical and scientific aspects of aquatic resources management. The position develops analytical tools needed to better manage wetlands and other aquatic resources. The position provides information on the best available science to be used in protecting the natural and environmental resources in the state. The senior wetland ecologist provides training on wetland technical tools and methods to wetland practitioners.

Preferred applicants will have at least a master’s degree in aquatic sciences. Applicants should have knowledge and experience with statistics, study design, Quality Assurance plans and strong writing and communication skills. The application deadline is April 16, 2014.
