Habitat Fish Biologist II

Two (2) Positions

Fisheries Resources Management

Department of Natural Resources

Salary: $18.62-$21.37/Regular/Full-Time

Location: (1) Twisp, WA & (1) Wenatchee, WA


Incumbent assists in efforts to protect, restore and manage the most productive habitats in the Wenatchee River Basin, for the primary benefit of anadromous salmonids. Habitat protection and restoration is being undertaken under the auspices of the Upper Columbia Habitat Project (UCHRP), and experimental supplementation program targeting anadromous salmonids in the Wenatchee Rivers in Washington State. The ultimate goal of the UCHRP is to implement an enhancement program for all anadromous fish stocks currently or historically present in the Wenatchee subbasins.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

§  Knowledge of the life histories of anadromous and resident salmonid fishes of the Pacific Northwest.

§  Knowledge, in general, of fluvial geomorphology, riparian ecology and hydrologic principles and their relationship to fish habitat requirements.

§  Knowledge of or familiarity of federal land acquisition policies and procedures.

§  Knowledge of regulatory processes governing construction in shoreline environments.

§  Proficient to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences on controversial natural resource management issues.

§  Ability to initiate, organize and implement major projects independently.

§  Ability to be sensitive to tribal culture and values and work to bring together individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

§  Ability to plan, organizes, evaluate and control the workflow of technicians.

§  Ability to travel as work requires.

§  Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors under various weather conditions.

General Recruiting Indicators:

§  Requires a four year degree in natural resources management, fisheries, or closely related filed AND three years experience equivalent to a Biologist I. A Masters degree in fisheries, natural resources management, or closely related field is preferred.

Necessary Special Requirement:

§  Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License with ability to obtain a tribal driver’s permit.

§  Must live in Twisp/Wenatchee, WA area or be willing to relocate.

§  Required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
